Making a ceramic bubble candle holder. Bubble Collection.
"How to do" video tutorial, click here.
Technique: Slab building.

1) Wedge very well the clay.

2) Open the clay using some guide strips for slab building technique. I’m using 5mm thickness strips.

3) Transfer the template to the clay and cut it out.

4) Put your stamp on the back of part “4" or elsewhere after you have the piece done.

5) Start by shaping the inner wall (part 3) into a cylinder. I made a 45º cut on the edges for better attachment.

6) Score both sides for better attachment.

7) Apply slip.

8) Join the parts and set it aside.

9) Use a cane to help the shaping of the external wall (parts 1 and 2 joint). Apply cornstarch so it doesn't stick together.

10) Shape it into a semicircle.

11) Bend it until its ends touch which other. Use some water during this process so the clay doesn't crack.

12) Score both sides for better attachment.

13) Apply slip.

14) Join the parts.

15) Make a coil for better attachment and use the tools you like the most to press it against the clay.

16) Adjust the shape of it.

17) Attach inner to external wall.

18) Adjust the shape of it.

19) Score both parts for better attachment.

20) Apply some slip and finish the bottom attachment the way you prefer. I like to use my fingers at this point.

21) After that, I like to smooth the bottom with the rib.

22) Shaping the top of the piece to accommodate its closure. I like to use a beater for that.

23) Score both parts for better attachment.

24) Mark the center where the top closure will be attached spinning the wheel and holding the hand.

25) Apply slip and attach top closure to walls.
